Poetry Monday

Today’s poem is a bit of doggerel from my novel Dangerous Talents. It’s the refrain of a song about a hapless hunter who keeps returning home empty-handed to an increasingly unhappy wife.  Having taken refuge from their enemies in a mountain tunnel, Lord Dahleven sings it to Celia to honor the fallen comrade who composed it.

Hot pot, what have you got?
Naught but a meatless stew.
A turnip, a ’tater,
A green tomato,
Is all I can offer you.

Dangerous Talents is a romantic fantasy currently under submission to a New York publisher.  Wish me luck!
