John Vornholt is a member of my critique group. He’s a multi-published author and playwright. His play, The First Third is about the first draft lottery that was televised in prime time in December of 1969. It takes place in the living room of a small house in an Ohio college town.
I saw the opening night performance last Wednesday and the young actors all did a great job. The play is all too topical with the U.S. embroiled in a difficult war. (Despite our current all volunteer service, all young men still must register for the draft.)
The play is full of irony and humor as well as the obvious anxiety. For those who are in the Tucson area, the play runs through July 17. You can order tickets from the Beowulf Alley Theatre.
